I'm definitely over-thinking some of the exercises. I keep thinking that maybe I will really let go if I think things through, but today, I remembered that that is the OPPOSITE of letting go. I need to stop thinking about my answers and start answering. Stop thinking about what I want to accomplish and start doing it. Sometimes, I just need a little kick in the butt.

Not Rumpusing this week
I was doing so well, keeping up with all the classes and reading, but I am also hosting an out of town visitor at work and with the weather issues, I just got behind today. I felt like it was all okay if I was reading it all, but I didn't even read anything today - no time. So, this weekend is going to be a weekend of catching up on my classes and some of the exercises.

Procrastination, Thy Name is Jean
I really had plans to do a lot more and I ended up doing absolutely nothing useful. I didn’t work on my classes (although I DID read the new material that was released for them and watched a video for my February Lettering class), my journal, my blog, nothing. I checked Facebook, I played games, I watched some bad television, got annoyed by the news and the panic over “possible snow”.
Speaking of snow, I have a bone to pick with the news media. Granted, we live in a very difficult area of the country to forecast, but they are WRONG 99% percent of the time and yet, a few days ago, they had the nerve to do a mocking story about how everyone here panics when it might snow. I remember the first panic that happened. I think it was probably 1996. The media actually encouraged businesses to send people home early (like about 2pm) because we were heading for a “blizzard”. Since it was the first time anyone had heard that kind of report in this area, people took it seriously and schools and businesses closed and sent everyone home. All at the same time. If rush hour is from 3:30-7pm and everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) rushes out and gets on the road, guess what happens? It takes 8 hours to get 17.5 miles. Seriously. Fast-forward to today when they are almost disappointed that there isn’t any trouble on the roads. GRR. It is quite irritating.
So, anyway, I didn’t do anything useful and I’m a little sad about it, but I’m just going to put it down to having a true day off.
I need to sit down and do a little timeline/map. I have a book to read, a show to rehearse and classes to keep up with in addition to all the regular life stuff. I'm exhilarated, but I am also feeling some resistance as some of the course work requires some self-reflection that goes a bit deeper than "what color do you want your blog to be?". I knew this going into it, so I'm not completely surprised by my reaction, but I am also committed to doing the work. That's the sad thing about paying for stuff - when I pay for it, I'm more likely to participate. You'd think I could just do all this and make it happen on my own, but there is an accountability that happens when you actually spend money and commit to a community of other people. I'm stoked and a little nervous. Maybe it is just me (I doubt it), but it is always scary to look deep because I'm either afraid of what I will find or WON'T find and/or afraid to change.
Wish me luck!

Change is Hard, Not Impossible
A lot of people get impatient with the pace of change. - James Levine
I always have these imaginings that when I decide to do something or change something, it happens quickly and smoothly. I'm usually (almost always) wrong. This time is no exception, but I'm not feeling down about it. Just trying to figure it out.
I think that is a sign of maturity (I hope). Usually, if I lose patience or get frustrated, I use it as an excuse to give up or change my mind (read: back away in fear). This time, as I realize that I have things to do for myself and things that I have committed to others, instead of letting others trump self, I'm figuring out what I need to do for both.
I want/imainge myself to be a person who isn't governed by structure and rules. I had a boss who said, "You should work on the handbook because you are a black and white person." I was really offended and kind of hurt, but later I realized that there is truth to that. I see the shades of gray, but only because I know where the black and white are. I do believe in rules although I'm not adverse to bending or breaking them for the right reasons. I guess I thought that if I need structure and rules and boundaries it meant that I wasn't fun or funny or friendly or flexible. My head believes that none of those things are true. My heart still doesn't buy that it is okay to have both. (I think this is a little bit of Roby legacy.)
I don't really like surprises anymore - I've had enough unpleasant ones to last me a lifetime, so I guess it makes sense that I like to have some predictability in my life. I think that some level of predictability is underrated. If you have a base of predictable behavior, predictable outcomes, it is easier to roll with the punches that you CAN'T control. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I have a lot going on with all the classes and work and the blog and art journaling and my book group and a play I'm working on, and and and... But I'm feeling good. I'm a little behind everywhere, but I haven't given up. I'm structuring in time to work on each thing and will continue to do that as I move forward.
I can't wait to see where this leads!

On The Road Again
I had a nice dinner with Roby's mom and step-dad last night - our annual outing to remember Roby and see each other. I am going to be better about calling at other times during the year this year - we all suffer from the "I don't want to bother you if you are busy" syndrome, so then we don't see each other. I love them dearly, so I want to be sure I spend time with then as regularly as I can.
Tonight, I am in Seattle. I had to work on payroll from a hotel computer - I can't do it with this little netbook and no mouse...keys are too small, too much mouse-work for me. I will be working with a new co-worker. I should not drive to strange places in the dark - it was raining and the speed limit is 70 mph - not my forte in the dark in an unfamiliar place. I made it safe and sound, but my shoulders are tight from tensing. :) Tomorrow, I will be driving home in the same conditions, but it doesn't matter when I get home...Tonight I was feeling the pressure to get to the hotel.
So, even though I know that I have blog course material waiting for me, I have an early morning, so I'm off to bed. More tomorrow! I can't wait to start my class!!!

Post 1365
In 2 days, I will be celebrating my 4-year Blogoversary! Unbelievable! Even more unbelievable is that this is my 1, 365th post! Now, I'm not saying that all these posts are anything special on their own, but as a group, as a consistent project - 1365 is a lot of posts. I'm so proud of the blog for a lot of reasons. No matter what, I keep going. No matter how boring or how uninspired I feel sometimes, I keep coming back. I know that sometimes that isn't so thrilling for the folks who do come and read here, but hopefully, over the weekend, when my "How to Build A Blog You Truly Love" ecourse starts, you will reap the benefits of my learning. I'm so looking forward to it!
Thank you so much to anyone who visits here! I appreciate each person who comes by to read - if even for a moment or two. It is an awesome thing to throw my voice out into the wind to see if anyone is out there. I do it for myself and I appreciate the support I receive from my blog-reading friends.
I love to hear from folks who stop by. I hope you'll leave a comment or two. I hope you will come back by sometime to see how WildRumpusing grows as I take my ecourse.

New Year's A-Coming
I can't wait for the new year to start. I have big plans at work, big plans in my life, big plans for the blog...
Right now, I'm signed up for several classes. The blogging one (see the button on the right hand side of the blog), a lettering workshop with Joanne Sharpe, a Kelly Kilmer art journaling class and a storytelling class from Ali Edwards. None of the start yet and I am ITCHING to start. I'm just feeling full of energy and excitement for moving forward.
Good clean fun.

NaBloPoMo November Prompt #30: What did you learn?
NaBloPoMo November 30 Prompt: What did you learn from doing NaBloPoMo?
Well, obviously, this isn't my first venture into NaBloPoMo. I like having something to look to each day that I need to do. I do write a post every day, but sometimes I get a day behind in the dates. I don't feel pressure from that anymore - I just keep writing. It is a way to hold myself accountable to keep blogging.
As I said in another post, I'm taking a course in January on improving the blog - I'm excited for the parts about generating content and beating writer's block. I am also hoping I can figure out what I'm trying to accomplish here - it is something more than just an on-line diary and something less than trying to make my living doing this. I just feel like I have a lot to do and say and see and this works for me...I just want to do it better. I want to engage readers more, I want to keep things exciting (or at least interesting!) for myself and for everyone who is gracious enough to come here.
So, now we are counting down to the new year and some new stuff. :)

Doubt and Self-Care
So I have been struggling with the blog - I've lost direction. I started out with a really personal journey and then some of that changed. Then I veered into some group participation, I took a telecourse and a writing course, I've been art journaling, learning photography. All of this has been present here, along with some opinions, so silly posts, some videos, and some "life reporting" that gets boring - even for me.
There is so much in my head and so much that I want to do and say and then when I sit down to say it, I'm not always there at that moment. It is frustrating.
So I have signed up for a class that I'm pretty excited about - it starts in January. I feel like I lost my voice somewhere for this blog and I really want to find it. I am so proud of having been here for such a long time, for committing to regular posting - even when it isn't very inspired. That commitment really means something to me and now I want to take it to the next level. I don't plan on being a famous blogger or anything - I just want to be clear about what I'm doing here and what stories I want to tell - what I want to focus on. I haven't been very focused and I need some help in that area.
So, look for some changes in the future - who knows where this will lead me.

Where Did it All Begin? -KITB
Where Did It All Begin?
Everything has a beginning. A shiny moment when ideas and opportunities click, and something is started. Then, sometimes, a little ways down the road, we forget the why and the how of the thing that started it all. The thing gets a little tarnished and we lose the energy that made it fun at the start.
As you sit here, mojo nowhere in sight, tell us, where did it all begin? How did the shiny idea start?
When I decided to write about this, I was thinking about how I got involved in theatrical interpreting, but I think I have already written about that here...I worry that I keep saying the same things over and over and even I will be bored with myself. :)
I started this blog a little while after someone at work shared their blog with me. I was fascinated with the idea and hadn't really explored the blogosphere AT ALL at that point. I didn't have a camera except in my sidekick phone, I hadn't done anything really artistic in a long time (I painted some tiles at Ceramica about 7 or 8 or 9 years ago...). I had pretty much given up on writing anything but emails at work. I had played around with Homestead trying to make a website to honor Roby and I really liked playing with images and trying to put something together that was visually interesting. I had put together Signplay.com to advertise interpreted theatrical performances in Oregon but I felt limited by my own lack of skill, so I thought maybe a blog would help me figure out how to do something more.
I started with this blog and then I realized I wasn't really sure what I was doing so I started looking for something else. I did my Pink blog that I still have up but I don't mess with too much - it was the first place I did Nablopomo as a test. It was a failure in naming conventions, first of all. I hadn't figured that part out yet. I think I was looking for more anonymity but then I was like, "Um, duh, it is on the internet. It isn't anonymous." I'm good with that now. :)
I started it a couple of days before the anniversary of Roby's death and I think it started as a repository for Roby stories and thoughts that I just needed to get out and then it grew into something so much more than that, even though that is a big thing in itself.
Sometimes I think about stopping - or only blogging when I have something REALLY IMPORTANT to say. Then I thought - what if I don't have anything "really important" to say - just my ordinary self and my ordinary thoughts. That is worth something. I like ordinary. I like no-drama. I like the little glimpses we get into people's lives through blogs. I have taken classes, met authors, gone to workshops, made new friends, done crazy art, learned about photography, and I have made a commitment to blog here for whatever it is worth.
It's a crazy thing, but I am so happy that I started.

KITB: What Do You Love To Do?
Prompt from Kick in the Blog:
"What Do You Love to Do?"
At the last blog conference I attended the delightful Patti Digh challenged us to change things up when we're out and about. "Instead of asking people what they do, ask them what they love to do."So, I'm asking you.
My response:
I don't think that any of my answers will be a surprise to anyone who spends any time here, but I think it is a good exercise to think about all the goodness we have in our lives - even when we aren't necessarily DOING those things actively.
I love going to see musical theatre. I love listening to music and particularly musical theatre. I love doing my art journal and I love playing Pictionary. I love going to the beach and I love the water. I love going to the movies. I love reading. I love snuggling down in a warm bed to read an old favorite. I love laughing with my friends. I love when we all get together and tell the same old stories we have told a million times and laugh until our sides and cheeks ache. I love interpreting. I love interpreting shows - but mostly the part where we get to play around with language and meaning and try to figure out how to make it all come together. I love blogging and I love the people I have met and the things I am loving doing BECAUSE of blogging.
I think I could go on for a long time about things I love - I'm basically pretty happy. I love having

Kicked in the Blog - A New Blog Destination
A Facebook friend posted about a new blog called "Kick in the Blog" which is providing different prompts to encourage/help blog writers when they are feeling the stress/pressure/blankness of writer's block or whatever people suffer from when they feel they can't write. This is just what I have been talking about in terms of wanting to write something different and maybe more meaningful (at least to me). I need something between "List the 5 celebrities you want to sleep with" and "Write a letter to your Self in 10 years. Describe the goals you have achieved.". I think I'm going to try it. It's inaugural post ran yesterday and I decided to participate.
The inaugural prompt was: Who believes in you today? Who believed in you in the past?
Who Believes in You today?
When I first read this post, I was worried I would have a hard time figuring this one out. After a little thought, though, I had a couple of realizations. People believe in us for many different reasons - to be a member of a family, a work place, a community, a friend, a peer. Sometimes, I feel lonely and I miss the days when I was surrounded by my friends. We can't keep that up our whole life - we have the years when we are surrounded by friends - years when we are young and still learning who we are and what roles we are expected to play, what roles we want to play and how we want to move through the world. As we get older and more confident, our circles sometimes get a little smaller, or they seem to. We don't see all those people every day or every week, but it doesn't mean they aren't still out there, believing in us. We are growing and still learning, but don't need the reinforcement in the same way we once did.
I realized that I have an army of believers who stand with and behind me. Some of them are faces in my world on a regular basis. Some of them are occasional visitors who are no less present for their lack of physical proximity. My family, my friends, my chosen family, my co-workers, my peers, my boss, my company, my blogging community and fellow art journaling sojourners - I'm sure the list is longer than I can even imagine.
The reason I can even write this, however, is due to all the people who have believed in me in the past. Their support, their love, their trust and belief led me to the place where I can say that I believe in myself. Isn't that the ultimate goal?
Who Believed in You in the Past?
Instead of rehashing all the people who have contributed goodness to my life here, I direct you to my December 2008 Nablopomo posts where I did a month of THANKS-giving to the people who have so positively influenced me and my world. I know that there are many, many more people I should name and thank - these were the big ones and the ones I felt I could write about on the internet. I am grateful for the love and support of all - not just the people I listed in some blog posts. It was 3 years ago, after all. I know I have added a few people since then, so please don't be offended if you are specifically mentioned.

30 Days of Get Your Art On Days 6 & 7
Neither of the pages I'm posting today are done but I wanted to get something posted for my art challenge. After July 4th's pages, I decided to do a couple of pages that had limited color themes. It was going okay until I got a little too exotic in the color scheme, I think. The page I did yesterday will only have pink, white or black in it. The page I did today is a departure from that - I just liked the focal image and what the girl's shirt says.
**As a side note, I don't know what the h*ll Blogger did to their site, but everything looks freaky and new and I'm not really sure if I will be able to get used to this new layout and all...I will report back later. :( Hi. My name is Jean and I'm resistant to change.

I'm still working on the pink...I haven't quite found the right combination but I worked for a long time on it yesterday and then I gave up out of frustration.
I think I have some paper that I will include even though this is from my J.O.Y. 2 journal - I have been trying to only use magazines and books that I have instead of commercial papers, but I think the pink is more demanding than I thought. Rules were made to be broken, right?
"One World. In it together. Your strength strenthens us" is what the shirt on the left says. I liked it and I decided I wanted to use the focal image. I used colors that appear in the focal image as the background color theme. I still need to find some more blue, I think and cover up some of the text and then I will do some penwork or some journaling to round out the page.

Rethinking the Font and Day 5 of GYAO
I am eternally frustrated with the amount of knowledge I DON'T have regarding HTML because I want this blog to look a certain way and I just can't quite get there. I know I am always futzing with the look - I just want it to have a certain flavor. I really like the font I have for the post titles but the font that the posts are in is just too small - especially photo captions. I think I may go back to a regular old font - disappointing, but I would prefer it if people can actually read what's here if they are nice enough to come around and look. I don't know. Just feeling annoyed with it a little.
I tried to start a new art journal page, but I wasn't feeling it, so I pulled some new stuff from a magazine and then I did a little pen work and doodling on a page and did some photos. I will probably do a little more work, but I wanted to be sure I got something up for July 5. :) Trying to keep up with my challenge - 30 Days of Getting Your Art on. Love it.
First photo is a page I did last night but I didn't take a photo of it until today. The second photo is the page I was working on earlier. I'm a little sad because a couple of weird blue dots showed up on the collage and I don't know where it is from. I put some papers between the sheets to try and prevent it, but we'll see what happens.

Funniest. Story. Ever.
I happened upon this blog a while ago - I don't really remember how. Today, I read this post which is, as the title of MY blog post suggests, one of the funniest stories ever. You need to have a sense of humor, the ability to embrace the absurd and an appreciation for well-used swearing to appreciate this post. If you have all that, click here.

Fonts and Layouts and Templates, Oh My!
I read an article today about Fonts and which fonts are good to use (in general) and which are bad. I'm pretty sure that the new font I'm using on the blog would end up on the "BAD" list...for some reason, though, I have been craving a font that looks different...I may have to keep experimenting - I don't want it to be hard to read, I just want it to have some personality. It's kind of like driving a yellow car or liking screaming Pink - you can't just have the regular thing. It needs to be amped up a notch. If you find this font too hard to read or annoying, please let me know. I will probably go back to something more normal soon - I just needed a change...

New Look?
Of course I am doing that Saturday, "I want to change the look of my blog" search. I found a place where there were some cool templates, but I can't seem to get it to work, even though I am following the instructions EXACTLY. So, keep your eyes pealed - there may be some more color and fun on the blog soon. I'm working on it.

#Trust30 Starting Tomorrow
There I was, innocently reading posts on Facebook, when I found the next theme for my blog. I'm participating in Nablopomo for June and they have a theme there, but I don't usually do their themes - they don't always resonate with me. I do try to check out some of their prompts, as well, but it isn't often that I use them.
So, today, Patti Digh posted on Facebook that she had been selected as an author for a Seth Godin project called #Trust30 that starts tomorrow. Of course, I immediately went to the website to sign up. Seth Godin is a favorite of several people I admire greatly and I have enjoyed some of his work (I haven't explored deeply, so I have little to go on). Patti (this link is to her other blog) is someone that I not only admire but trust and love that she posted about this.
Here's what it says about the project on the website:
There is also mention of "The Domino Project", which I am trying to find out about right now.
Anyway, I'm excited to have a theme/project for the next 30 days. I have been feeling unfocused for a long time. I will still be doing art journals and other stuff, but I miss some of the stuff I used to do here - when I started blogging, I was a lot more fearless (re: open) and I'd like to get back to that. I think I just got caught in a rut.

- #Trust30 is an online initiative and 30-day writing challenge that encourages you to look within and trust yourself. Use this as an opportunity to reflect on your now, and to create direction for your future. 30 prompts from inspiring thought-leaders will guide you on your writing journey.

Bad Moodiness
Wednesdays seem to be an uphill battle for me right now. For some reason, I am more tired on Wednesdays than any other day of the week. I don't stay up late on Tuesdays or anything. I don't have to get up early on Tuesdays...it doesn't make sense to me, but for about the last two months, I have struggled with getting up on time, getting out of the house.
Today, I had a call that I had to be on for work, but I was running late. Then, I didn't have the number and passcode I needed, so I had to pull it up on the home computer which made me even later.
After the call, I was listening to the radio on the way to work and they were talking about how the state police in Michigan have a device where they can pull all your information from your cell/smart phone in the blink of an eye - even if you haven't committed a crime. Many folks will say, "What do you have to hide on your phone?" but that is really beside the point. It isn't that I have things to hide or private things or even anything that would get me into minor trouble - I don't. Why are we so willing to give up our privacy/rights for the sake of convenience?
Before you cry out "HYPOCRITE!", I am aware of the fact that my presence on Facebook and here on the blog means that I have already given up a certain amount of personal privacy. This is true. But I choose where and when and how I share. Those who know me know that there is much that is NOT SAID here, not said on Facebook. I struggle mightily with the whole thing. Where is the line? Is it my choice? If I had my laptop sitting in my car and got pulled over, would we say it was okay for that information to be transmitted - for no reason- to the police? Would it be okay for them to say, take my address book and my personal correspondence? I was reminded of this quote today:
AAARGGGHH!! Sometimes, I wish my brain would just SHUT UP.
Anyway, the day continued that way ALL DAY LONG and then finally I got to watch "American Idol" but my bad day continued and I wasn't really too impressed with any of them tonight. I guess I will have to watch it again when I'm in a better mood.

A Blog in Search of a Theme
A friend of mine had a status update on FB that I really enjoyed. The person had said that they wanted to participate in the "30 Days of Songs" Challenge but the day 1 theme stumped them - "Favorite Song". I think most of us feel that way when asked to say what our "FAVORITE" anything is. We don't really like to commit in the U.S. (maybe that is just me projecting, but I think I see a trend). My response was, "Just pick your Favorite Song TODAY." And she did!
After I saw my friend start participating in the "30 Days of Songs" Challenge (or whatever it is officially called), I realized that I had my themes. I have a hard time wandering aimlessly in BlogWorld without a theme. I get into the whole, "I had a bad/good/crappy/great day. I ate soup for lunch" thing. That's okay occasionally, but sometimes I just want to write about something else. I like the idea of remembering stuff...the most fun I had on my blog was a post I did that was all lists of goofy stuff. I will have to find it and repost or something.
Anyway, I decided that there could be "30 Days of Songs", "30 Days of Movies", "30 Days of Books" and probably a million more..."30 Days of Shows". I know that I have covered some of these things in random postings over the last couple of years, but I thought that they could, at the very least, spur some remembering. If you have been here more than once, you know that I am all over a good memory.
So, the first order of business is to choose which one to do first. I thought about doing the Song one first, but then I didn't want to seem too much like a copycat. Then I realized that no one would care and that I was just procrastinating. Since my Poetry Month was a dismal failure, I feel like I have to make it up in some way...
Anyway, tune in tomorrow to find out what I actually decided. And weigh in if you have a preference. I mean, I write it, but you read it. If there is a topic that spurs your interest or another "30 Days of..." that seems fun, let me know. :)
And, as always, thanks to those of you who stop by. I love knowing that we are all connecting with the world in so many diverse ways.
